Chettinad prawn gravy | Non veg recipe | step by step pictures and videos

Chettinad prawn curry - I usually cook dry gravy or tamarind sauce kulambu using prawn thats common recipe which i usually do it in my kitchen. If you really want to taste proper chettinad gravy then try it this recipe. It goes well with hot steamed rice,chapati . Today i did this recipe with frozen prawns,try this recipe with fresh prawn that will be so good for this recipes. I freshly made spice powder for this recipe,avoid instant store buy spice powder.Try this spicy gravy and let me know how it turned out for you


Prawn - 400g
Onion - 2 (medium size)
Tomato - 1 1/2 
Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
Chilly powder - 1 tsp
Salt and oil as required

Ground Spice masala:

Cinnamon stick - 1/2 inch
Cloves - 2 
Fennel seed - 1 tsp
Cumin seed - 1 tsp
Whole black pepper - 1/2 tsp
Red chilly - 2
Coriander seed - 1 tbsp
Ginger - 1/2 inch
Garlic - 4 pods
Onion - 1/2  (medium size)

Wash and clean the prawns and keep it aside
Take a pan,add some oil,add the ingredients one by one cinnamon stick,cloves,fennel seed,cumin seed,coriander seed,red chilly,ginger,garlic,onion

Roast the ingredients,transfer to blender and blend it as fine paste and keep it aside

In the same pan,add some oil once the oil heats add cumin seed

Add onions,saute until soft and translucent

Add tomatoes,saute until soft and mushy

Now add turmeric powder,chilly powder,salt,saute until raw smell go away

Add tamarind extract,saute for 2 mins

Now its time to add ground spice masala,mix them well,let it cook for 10 mins in a medium flame

After 10 mins add the prawns to the gravy,and mix them well

Let it again cook for 5 to 6 mins in a medium flame,do not over cook the prawns sometimes it will be so rubbery.

Now its ready to serve before that garnish some coriander leaves

Serve hot with steamed rice,chapathi
